Lake County is fortunate to have such a strong and collaborative nonprofit community that is committed to strengthening the lives of our current and future residents. One of the essential functions of a nonprofit is to have a governance board and these boards are strongest when they represent the community and/or clients that the organization exists to serve. Local leaders are developing this education series to create awareness of the nonprofit sector and have a local option for professional development for our incredible volunteer board members. With a diversity of experience, expertise, and perspectives, a nonprofit is in a stronger position to plan, manage risk, make prudent decisions, and take full advantage of opportunities. A diverse board is sensitive to cultural differences and has a stronger capacity to be in touch with community needs.
The Guest presenter will be Renny Fagan, former president and CEO of the Colorado Nonprofit Association. Renny is a former state legislator, director Colorado Department of Revenue, deputy attorney general, and state director for U.S. Senator Ken Salazar.
He serves on the boards of Mile High United Way, Colorado Channel Authority, Colorado Education Initiative and Jefferson Human Services Foundation. Renny was formerly a board member and chair of the National Council of Nonprofits and served one term on the Colorado Commission on Higher Education. A Colorado native, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from Northwestern University.
The community is welcome! Members of nonprofit boards, staff, volunteers and those interested in learning more are invited to the CMC Pinnacle Resource Center, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The free event will include lunch, childcare, refreshments, and a Safeway gift card.
